The F45 Story

F45 is a well-known Australian circuit training franchise founded in 2012 by Rob Deutsch and Adam Gilchrist in Sydney. Today, the brand stands at over 1,750 locations across 45 countries, and was one of the first boutique franchises to IPO on the New York stock exchange in 2019.

F45’s success has received celebrity endorsements from the likes of Hugh Jackman in their early days, as well as Mark Wahlberg, who is also an investor in the company.

Their  tagline “team training, life changing”, is reflected in their community-focused workouts that are catered to all fitness levels.

How Did F45 Cannon Street Score Overall?

The full client experience at F45 Cannon Street was great, achieving The Fit Guide Award Of Excellence.

The class in particular was very impressive, winning our highest accolade, the 5-Star Class Experience Award.

The Highlights

The class was a particularly strong area of the experience, with two coaches making an effort to connect with us, and deliver a smooth session. The community vibe in the club was strong.

What Our Evaluator Had To Say

“The class was easy to follow, even though there were numerous different exercises to follow and remember.”

“Both coaches regularly used my name throughout the class, which was a very nice touch.”

“The team did a great job of welcoming me to the studio and showing me around.”

What To Expect From A F45 Session

The name stands for “Functional Training 45”, with sessions being a mix of functional HIIT and strength exercises delivered in a 45-minute format. Each day, the workout is predetermined by F45 HQ in Australia, and is the same at every F45 location across the world.

Their Saturday “Hollywood” sessions are the only 60-minute class and are famous for hiring local DJs to create a party atmosphere and bring the community together.

Workouts are typically run by two or more coaches per class. To support the coach, clients are guided by screens that display each exercise as well as beeps and graphics that cue you to work, rest or move to your next station.

The Reception Service

We could not make a pre-visit call to the club as each of our three attempts were not answered.

Upon arrival at the club, there were no dedicated reception staff, which meant that check-in was delayed. However, once they had checked us in they did a good job of showing us around. As we left, the reception staff followed up with us to see if we’d enjoyed the session.

The Class Experience

F45 Cannon Street has achieved The Fit Guide 5-Star Class Experience award for an exceptional/outstanding class, putting it amongst the very best in London and the industry.

The class got off to a great start, with both coaches making a strong effort to connect with all the first timers and learn our names. It was well-structured from start to finish, with clear, concise coaching from the two instructors and an on-screen tech-based system that was easy to follow.

There was plenty of positive energy and a real community vibe, but there was no cooldown or invitation to use the space afterwards for our own routine.

The Equipment And Studio

The studio space reflected the brand well and was equipped enough to handle a large class.  The equipment and overall space was clean and well maintained, although there wasn’t anything particularly special or striking about the design.

The Facilities And Public Areas

Workout and shower towels were provided free of charge. Lockers were provided with number locks. Free water refill stations were available.

The public areas were overall clean and well maintained, but there was not a lot of space in the changing rooms and the shower amenities in a number of the showers needed topping up. As the training area and reception was one open space, there was no waiting area, and so we were asked to arrive precisely five minutes before the class began.

Digital And Technology

The online booking process was simple and aided by the branded F45 app. The website structure was functional and easy to navigate, although it did lack some features such as bios for the coaches.

The club used F45’s signature screen technology to display the workouts, which clearly display each exercise and what’s coming up next.

Pricing

F45 Cannon Street offers two introductory deals for first-timers. Newcomers can purchase a seven or 14-day unlimited package for £29 or £49 respectively.

F45 Cannon Street does not offer monthly memberships, although you can purchase class pack deals starting from £199 for a 10-pack of classes to £349 for 20. Also, a single drop-in session can be purchased for £25.
